We are now casting for "Antony and "Cleopatra" to run November 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23 at the Gorton Theatre (home of the Gloucester Stage Company) with rehearsals starting mid September, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in Rockport. Come celebrate William Shakespeare's 450th birthday Wednesday, April 23 @ 7:30 PM in an evening of soliloquies, sonnets and songs featuring Jonathan Arnold, Rodney Dahlgren, Olivia Gale, Ashlee Holm, Alison Landoni, Beebe and Duncan Nelson, Jessie Sorrells, and Joseph Stiliano. Enjoy English Birthday cake, CAST's Stratford Punch, and door prizes after the performance. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 student available at the door or reserve at cast2008@prodigy.net. All proceeds benefit the CAST Scholarship Fund, now in its third year awarding $500 scholarships to local students pursuing degrees in the performing arts.

CAST 2014

This year will mark the 450th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. He is the most performed playwright in the world, and has had more movies made from his plays than any other author.
CAST's sixth season will continue with "Shakespeare On Love", a program of scenes featuring some of the plays' most famous and infamous couples, to celebrate Valentine's Day. Performances are February 14, 15, & 16 at Spiran Hall, Broadway and School Street, Rockport.
Scenes have been selected from "The Tempest", "Much Ado About Nothing", "The Winter's Tale", "Troilus and Cressida", "Twelfth Night", and "Macbeth". Also included is "Muse of Fire" by Joseph Stiliano, a short comedy based on Shakespeare's purported relationship with the supposed dark lady of the sonnets. The title is taken from the prologue to "Henry V", the content of the piece from conjecture, supposition and a few facts. The play was read last summer as part of a ten-minute play festival, organized and guided by M. Lynda Robinson for the Gloucester Writers' Center.
In April, CAST will be celebrating the 450th with its annual tribute and birthday party with traditional English cake and pastries. More to come about that.
We will soon be casting our May production, "The Merry Wives of Windsor" featuring Ray Jenness reprising the role of Falstaff, the rollicking, boisterous knight errant brought back by Shakespeare, supposedly at the request of Queen Elizabeth I. Anyone wishing to be considered for a role, should contact director Joseph Stiliano at cast2008@prodigy.net .

Red Carpet Opening, October 31 2013

Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe will roll out the red carpet for its 2013 - 14 season premier "As You Like It". Patrons attending dressed up for the gala occassion will receive a gift from CAST and are invited to join the cast and crew for an after performance reception. So dress up and come have fun with us on Opening night, Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Season 2012 - 13 Finale



"Love's Labour's Lost" takes place in the kingdom of Navarre, where young King Ferdinand calls on his courtiers to join him in a pledge to undertake a strict regimen of study and celibacy. The court nobles, after reluctantly accepting, are sorely tested in their resolve - as is the king - by the arrival of the princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting.

As each man seeks a way around his vow to forego fleshly desire, and the Princess and her ladies see through the men's clumsy attempts at wooing, the stage is set for some romanric hi-jinks. They set out to prove that as the pen may be mightier than the sword, neither is a match for a woman's sharp tongue. Disguises, false identities, and a masked ball complicate the situation, leaving the king and his men scrambling to recover some semblence of dignity and possibly the love of the women they pursue.

At the Shakespeare Celebration, Ray Jenness, president of CAST presents this year's $500 scholarship award to Mia Formichella of Gloucester. The award is for Cape Ann high school seniors pursuing higher education in the performing arts.

Five hundred summers I slept in the earth

Once grim-faced war robbed me of life betimes.

What good I did was with me deep interr’d;

Though I’ll be buried as befits a king,

The scholars still debate my history.

And yet what secrets I would fain unlock,

To all the world’s ears, if my bones could talk.
